Many newcomers find Knauf ceiling installations daunting but with the right preparation and a methodical process, even a beginner can finish the project with great results. Before you begin, assemble your full toolkit. This will help you ensure accurate alignment of the entire ceiling grid. Begin by fixing the boundary channel to the walls. Use screws or nails to attach the profile firmly, making sure it is perfectly horizontal. Install the main T-bars from above using load-bearing cables. These wires should be placed at 1.2-meter intervals and fixed to concrete using appropriate fasteners if the ceiling is plaster. Check alignment with a laser level for uniformity.
With the main channels installed, insert the cross tees across the main runs. These will create the modular layout for panel placement. Cut the cross tees to fit if necessary, and lock them securely into the slots. The grid should be uniform with consistent spacing to ensure the ceiling boards fit properly.
Prior to installing the panels, make sure all wires, recessed lights, and air ducts are properly installed and accessible. It is much easier to deal with these elements before the boards are in place. When you are ready to install the boards, start from one corner of the room and work your way across. Gently position the panel and fasten with screws driven into the runners and cross tees. Place screws 15–20 cm apart along borders and 20–30 cm apart internally.
Keep a slight separation between panels, about 0.04 to 0.08 inches, to accommodate thermal movement. Do not force the boards into place. If they do not fit easily, reassess your layout and spacing. After all the boards are installed, apply tape and mud to conceal the seams, just like you would with gypsum board.
Finally, inspect the entire ceiling. Make sure heads are fully seated, the plasterboard is level, and no dips or bulges exist. Once you are satisfied, add texture, skim coat, or decorative finishes.
